40 days of prayer
A Call To Prayer ///
Throughout Scripture, we see the People of God called to special seasons of prayer. As we consider 2010 to be a time to strengthen our ministry, we have a strong sense that is it time for us to seek God together by entering into an unusual season of prayer
Unusual?
We assume our church members are engaged in regular, daily, normal times of prayer. However, there are times we agree to seek God together in “unusual” ways.
What do we mean by unusual?
During This Season We Suggest You Consider
- Times of Fasting and Prayer
- Prayer Triplets (3 people praying together)
- Special Times (early morning, noon, etc.)
- Special Prayer (solemn assemblies, etc.)

Days 1-4 (Wednesday, February 24- Saturday, February 27)
Preparation, Confession, and Repentance
Read James 4, Psalm 32, Psalm 51, and John 15. Consider "unusual" ways you might seek the Lord during these 40 days.
Week 1 (Sunday, February 28-Saturday, March 6)
Personal Response to the Father's Love
Read Ephesians 1 every day. List the blessings of God that you have in Christ. Spend time searching the Scriptures for verses that speak of God’s love and respond to the Word of God with repentance and faith. (Consider Rom. 5; I John chapters 3 & 4) Read Romans 8 through in one sitting. Go back and make verses 31-39 personal by changing the pronoun. For example: “...if God is for me, who can be against me.” Do this in every verse (Rom. 8:31-39) and respond to the Father’s love.
Week 2 (Sunday, March 7-Saturday, March 13)
Praying for our Families
Let the Scripture guide your vision for family life (Ps. 78:1-8). Consider the following passages and replace the pronouns with family members’ names, and make them personal. Then pray that your loved ones will experience this kind of life as Christ strengthens their hearts. (Ps. 1; Ps 90:16-17; Prov. 31:10-31; Eph. 3:14-20; Eph. 5:15-6:4).
Week 3 (Sunday, March 14-Saturday, March 20)
Praying for our Church
As we pray for our church, let these verses serve as a daily guide…
- Sunday Church leaders (Heb. 13:17-18)
- Monday Vision (Eph 3:20-21)
- Tuesday Filled with Christ’s love and life (Col 3:12-17)
- Wednesday Know Unity in diversity (Eph 4:1-7)
- Thursday Know God’s provision of money and resources (Phil 4:10-19)
- Friday Deepen our roots; Strengthen one another (Eph. 4:11-16)
- Saturday Multiply disciples and leaders (II Tim. 2:1-2)
Week 4 (Sunday, March 21-Saturday, March 27)
Praying for those who need to know Christ
This week, as you pray, read: Col. 4:2-6; Eph. 6:19; Matt 9:37-38; I Pet. 3:15-16; Rom 10; Acts 20:24; Eph. 6:19
- Pray that you can see people the way Jesus sees them.
- Make a list of family members and friends who need Christ and begin praying for them by name.
- Prepare your heart to share the Message of Christ.
- Ask God to give you a chance to speak to someone about Christ. If you don’t know how to lead someone to Christ, ask a friend to teach you how.
- Pray the Lord of Harvest to send out workers (Matt 9:37-38).
