A war within. The desire to hold tightly to the things of this world calls to us – and a battle wages on in our hearts – a battle of created things pining for a place reserved only for the Creator. It’s like trying to hold tightly to water only to realize that the harder you grasp, the more elusive it becomes.

But there, in the midst of the battle, do we hear the plea of Jesus:
“What does it benefit someone to gain the whole world and lose their soul?

And only there – in the letting go; in the surrender – do we find that we have everything, but possess nothing
